Most operations are performed in morning theatre, so after you have been woken up you will be asked to have a shower using antiseptic shower gel before putting on your theatre gown, theatre pants and anti-emboli stockings, worn below the knee. You will have been a ‘nil by mouth’ from midnight the night before. Quite a few operations, e.g. LD/Expander procedures are now carried out in the afternoons.
If you are over anxious you may be offered a pre-med. A porter will come to collect you and, together with a member of the Ward staff, you will be taken to the theatre waiting area. There you will meet some of the theatre staff before being moved into the anaesthetic room.
