Patient support

It is becoming clear that women who are considering having a breast reconstruction are wanting to know as much as they possibly can about the options and the pros and cons of the various techniques used, but, and this is very important, ladies (and their partners, loved ones and friends) want to see examples of what the end results can look like. This can be done by photographs and images from the web, but nothing beats the real thing and by seeing someone else’s reconstructed breast can immediately reassure people that ‘this is for them’ or not for them. Additionally, as much as the internet and other materials are very, very good, as is information provided by the surgeon or breast care
nurse, nothing can beat talking directly to someone
who has “been there”. It is then that a true feeling
and understanding of what it is “really” like
becomes apparent.

(Read “Dear Jen....Breast Reconstruction –
what is it really like?” by Glennis Hooper.

It is for that reason, starting at Kettering General
Hospital, the Crazy Hats Charity is funding the
start of a B.R.A. Group (Breast Reconstruction
Awareness Group). (“Brag” being a perfect
acronym for anyone who has had a good
experience of breast reconstruction).
Such groups are in situ in various parts
of the country; they are set up so that
women and their family/friends can come
along to informal venues and talk to women
who have had a breast reconstruction – and
ask those burning questions, share stories....
have a coffee and a chat!
